Drywall Repair in Miami

Cut back to sound material and rebuilt, because patching over a soft edge is how the same crack comes back.

Repairs

What the work involves

Repairs get cut back to sound material and framed to something solid before new board goes up. Patching over a soft edge is how the same crack comes back in a season, so we do not do it. Texture is matched back in, because a patch you can find is not a finished repair.

  • Water and storm damage repair
  • Cut-outs and patches after mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-in
  • Ceiling repair and replacement
  • Settlement crack repair and re-taping
  • Texture matched back into the surrounding surface

Find out why before fixing what

A stain on a ceiling is a symptom. Repairing it without establishing where the water came from produces a clean ceiling and the same stain again after the next heavy rain. Roof, plumbing, a failed window seal, an air handler drain line backing up, condensation on an uninsulated duct — each leaves a different pattern and each needs a different trade.

So the first question is always the source, and sometimes the honest answer is that a plumber or a roofer needs to come before we do. We would rather say that than repair the same ceiling twice.

Cut back to sound material

Drywall that has been wet does not recover. It loses strength, the paper face separates, and it can grow mould inside the wall where nobody can see it. The repair is to cut back past the damage to sound board, frame to something solid, and rebuild.

Insulation behind a wet section usually needs to come out too — wet insulation stays wet for a very long time in this climate and keeps feeding the problem. Patching a damp cavity closed is how a small repair turns into a large one a year later.

Making the repair disappear

The drywall part is the easy half. The half that decides whether a repair reads as a repair is the finish: feathering the joints wide enough that the transition is invisible, and matching the surrounding texture.

Knockdown and orange peel both need sampling and test-spraying to match — the compound consistency, the tip, the pressure and the timing all shift the result. A patch you can find from the doorway is not finished work, regardless of how sound the board behind it is.

Questions

Common questions

Can you match my ceiling texture on a patch?

That is the part of the job that takes the skill, and yes. We sample and test-spray until it matches. Where a ceiling has been painted many times over an old texture, sometimes the honest recommendation is to respray the whole ceiling instead — we will say so rather than deliver a patch you can see.

My ceiling is stained but not wet. Do I still need to open it up?

Usually the stain needs investigating even if it is dry now. A dry stain means the water stopped, not that the cause is fixed, and painting over it without knowing why traps the question rather than answering it. Stain-blocking primer hides it; it does not tell you anything.

Do you work with insurance claims?

We do repair work that is part of a claim, and we will document what we find and price it line by line so it is straightforward to submit. We are contractors, not adjusters — we can describe the damage and the scope to put it right, and the claim itself stays between you and your carrier.
